SMTP mail servers

Netscape Version 4.5. Netscape Versions 4.05 and 4.06 example

Netscape is not only a browser; you can use it to collect and send email.

Open Netscape Communicator and from the Edit menu select Preferences. Click on the Identity option in the left-hand list (under Mail & Groups) and check the following settings are correct:

• Your name: the name you wish to appear on any messages you send (e.g. Alan Jones)
• E-mail address: alan.jones@yourcompany.co.uk (N.B. addresses are case sensitive)

Click on the Mail Servers option in the left-hand list and check that the following settings are correct:

• Mail server user Name: alan.jones%yourcompany.co.uk (NB. for Netscape you must use a % sign instead of the @ sign in your email login address).
• Outgoing mail server: post.demon.co.uk Click here for a list of SMTP mail servers for ISPs.
• Incoming mail server: e.g. post.firstserv.co.uk
• Mail Server Type: POP3
• Netscape will prompt you for your password when you click 'get mail'.

Click OK to save your settings and return to Netscape.
