Green Hosting
Environmental sustainability is an issue that affects every user of IT services. Firstserv has embarked on a number of initiatives to ensure that our generated carbon footprint is mitigated and reduced, we have branded this service ‘Firstserv green hosting’. Each of our customers using our Green Hosting plan will be running services that are ‘offset’ with our partner the World Land Trust www.worldlandtrust.org and use energy efficient hardware from our supplier Dell.
Recycling
Firstserv has invested in recycling services throughout our offices and data centres using a company called PaperRound for paper, plastic, cardboard and aluminium cans, Firstserv also purchases items from sustainable services leveraging our supplier green initiatives, all IT hardware is delivered using minimal packaging.
Technology
Firstserv was a pioneer in the UK hosting industry with our leveraging of virtualisation technologies and efficiency drives in power reduction. As part of our continued innovation Firstserv only purchases low powered hardware and has measured our annual ‘Power Usage efficiency’ ratings as being less than 1.5%. We will continue to invest and adopt technologies that bring technical benefits to our customers and deliver sustainable benefits to the environment, this is a key objective of all Firstserv research and development objectives.
Carbon Offsetting
Firstserv will always generate energy usage due to the nature of the technology focussed services we provide. To mitigate the effects Firstserv has created a partnership with the World Land Trust to provide Firstserv with restoration ecology projects allowing us to offset our carbon emissions.
