Firstserv is partnering with the World Land Trust to offer a new carbon-balanced webhosting package.
All services that Firstserv provides on its new Green Hosting package are carbon-offset.
The offsets will be carried out by The Carbon Balanced programme at World Land Trust , an international charity based in the UK that works with local partners to buy and protect threatened habitats which are vital to the survival of threatened species.

Firstserv’s new Green Hosting package will include webhosting, dedicated servers, managed servers or colocation servers. The energy used in the data centre by these services will be carbon-offset by Firstserv with the WLT. Two of the three data centres Firstserv uses are powered by renewable energy sources, and by offsetting the carbon generated by the energy use in the third data centre Firstserv are taking another step towards being totally carbon-balanced.
Webhosting always requires electricity use, but Firstserv has been working to reduce the amount of electricity it consumes in several ways. These initiatives include purchasing energy-efficient Dell hardware where available, using virtualisation to reduce the number of servers required, and ensuring unused equipment is switched off.
Firstserv has also offset all the carbon generated by its offices, and has both a paper recycling scheme and a cycle-to-work scheme in place.
